Vidi Grant for Wietske van der Zwaag
24 May 2019Wietske van der Zwaag has been awarded a Vidi Grant of € 800,000 by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). The grant enables Wietske to develop her own innovative line of research and set up her own research group in the coming five years.
The focus of Wietske’s study is the cerebellum. This is a densely structured brain region positioned behind the brain stem. It Is important for tasks ranging from finger movements to controlling emotions. The Vidi Grant will be used to develop new advanced MRI techniques and processing strategies to better visualize cerebellar function. “My long term goal is to make the cerebellum an integral part of cognitive and clinical neuroscience”, says Wietske.
VIDI
The Vidi Grant is awarded by NWO every year. A total of 443 researchers submitted an admissible research project for funding. Eighty-five of these have now received grants. Vidi is aimed at experienced researchers who have carried out successful research for a number of years after obtaining their PhDs. Together with Veni and Vici, Vidi is part of the NWO Talent Scheme which is intended as a stimulus for scientific talent.
